• "Fight For It" is Jesse Colin Young's duet with Carly Simon. They portray a couple going through a rough time, airing their grievances. They both agree on one thing: If they want this to work, they're going to have to fight for it.
• The song was written as a duet but Young didn't have anyone particular in mind to sing it with him until after it was completed. When he thought about who could embody the character in the song, it became obvious.
  
  "I know the woman who comes from this place, who's tough like this and would fight for a relationship," he said on the Songfacts Podcast. "And I knew that was Carly."
  
  Young knew Carly Simon from years earlier when they were both on the folk music circuit, he as a solo artist and she with her sister Lucy in The Simon Sisters. Young's producer, Michael James Jackson, contacted Simon, who agreed to do the duet.
  
  "By the time I got to the studio, she had half the vocal done," Young said. "She knew exactly what to do. Yeah, she was the right woman for that - she was that kind of gal."
• Jesse Colin Young wrote this song with Wendy Waldman, the main collaborator on his The Perfect Stranger album. Waldman was also a solo artist but had more success as a songwriter, co-writing the #1 Vanessa Williams hit "Save The Best For Last" and also "Heartbeat," a hit for the actor Don Johnson.
• Jesse Colin Young was the frontman for The Youngbloods, who were active from 1965-1972. As a solo artist, he never had any big hits but had a loyal following that stuck with him throughout his long career. He was still making music into the 2020s.
  
  "Fight For It" is from his 1982 album The Perfect Stranger, which was digitally released for the first time in 2024.
• The tambourine player on this song was Shelia Escovedo, who later teamed up with Prince and became a popular solo artist as Sheila E. Her hits include "The Glamorous Life" and "A Love Bizarre." The other credits are:
