Songfacts®:

  • "Timothy" is about Jet guitarist Cameron Muncey's brother, who passed away from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) before Cam was born. He always felt like a replacement child and had always been upset about the death of his brother. He was talking to Jet drummer Chris Cester about this one day, and Chris wrote the song for him. It's a slow, emotional song that stands in contrast to Jet's rockers like "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" and "Cold Hard Bitch."
  • "Timothy" is the last song on Get Born, Jet's debut album - it almost didn't make the cut.

The band is an Australian group with two brothers: Chris Cester and lead singer Nic Cester. They found themselves very busy in 2004 when the album took off. Most of their shows were outside of Australia, including an "Aussie Invasion" tour of the US with The Vines and The Living End. They put out their next album, Shine On, in 2006, but by then their star had fallen. The group stayed together a few more years but took a hiatus starting in 2011 that lasted until they re-formed as a live act in 2017. After getting back together, they were careful to maintain a reasonable schedule that allowed them to spend time with their families.

  • K from Nowhere, OnActually, in Sexy Sadie, it says, "What have you done?" But true, it's far from coincidence, seeing as Paul had a song called Jet...
  • Laura from Bham, United KingdomThis song is so awesome. One of my mates is in the same situation as Cam... I should write a song for them.

I love the whole Get Born album.... fantastic.
  • Dawson from Draper, UtI love this song. I think that it is about Cameron Muncey thinkng about what his brother would be like if he was alive. I love Jet, they are one of my favorite bands. Their best songs are Rip It Up from Shine On and Cold Hard Bi**h from Get Born.
  • Jess from London , EnglandTimothy is one of the best songs ever, it makes me strangly happy when I hear it.

  • Angelica from Charlotte, NcTimothy is one of my favorite Jet songs. has anyone noticed the Jet song, Look what you've done, has the exact same lyric line in it as the beatles' Sexy Sadie. They both say "look what you've done you've made a fool of everyone."
  • Connor from New Canaan, DcJet is awesome. I cant help it, i just love their music. Lazy Gun is definitley the best. i sing that song so loud sometimes when no one is around and it makes me feel awesome!!!!!
