• Jo Dee Messina wrote this song about her oldest son, Noah, who was born 2009. "That was a conversation," she explained on the Off The Record Podcast. "I'm like, 'Don't you know that I know you? I have loved you from before you were born. I've known you every single day of your life. I know what you're hiding. I know the beauty that you are. I've seen you. I've known you in the purest form, and I've loved you every step of the way.'
  
  He was going through something, and I'm like, 'You're hiding and I can see that you're hiding because the you that I know isn't visible to the world.' And so when I took that in and sat down with that song, I was like, 'This is what God says to us on an everyday level.' Don't you know I see who I created you to be? I see you, and I love you. So stop, stop, stop. Take down the wall that's between you and me."
• Much of the song reflects Messina's faith in God. "Life beats us up," she said on Off The Record. "We look like golf balls at the end. We got dents all over us. We've got the skin that's peeling off of us. We've got cracks and bruises. And we go through all of this stuff that the world beats us around, and he's like, 'Stop. Just look at me and let me love you because I promise I will walk with you through every step that you have to take.' And so I lived that. And so looking at my son going, 'I love you no matter what.' And even now, he's older, and I'm like, 'You are now the product of the choices that you're making. Now, will I be happy with all of your choices? No. Will I be there for you? Absolutely. Because you can't break that bond.'
  
  I want to make it very clear to people that I might have said this to my son, but this is what God is saying to you. If you let go of hurt, you've been holding your dreams lost. Hope that was stolen. If I walk with you where you go, would you let me love you if you knew how much that you mattered and I hold the pieces that shattered? It's always been you that I'm after. So let me love you."
• Messina wrote "Let Me Love You" with the songwriters Tim Nichols and Jonathan Smith. It's part of her 2026 album Bridges, her first in 12 years. By this time, Messina was doing a lot more of her own songwriting; 10 of the 11 tracks on the album she had a hand in writing.
