Songfacts®:

  • A Lionheart is a person of exceptional courage who faces and deals with danger or hardship without flinching. Famous sportspersons nicknamed "Lionheart" include racecar driver Dan Wheldon and mixed martial artist Anthony Smith. It was also the former ring name of professional wrestler Chris Jericho. In history, King Richard I of England (1157-'99) was called Richard Cœur de Lion (Richard the Lionheart), because of his reputation as a great military leader and warrior.

Here, Joel Corry teams up with Tom Greenan for a chest-thumping anthem about being brave in hard times. "'Lionheart' is a call to arms," Grennan told Apple Music. "People are living through uncertain times. This song is all about finding the strength to push back in the face of adversity."
  • While Joel Corry's production style is usually tech house or tropical house, here he veers into early 2010s EDM. "This record is a new direction for me and an evolution of my sound," he said. "I wanted to create an anthem for the festival main stages."
  • Corry and Grennan wrote "Lionheart (Fearless)" with Jamie Scott, Mike Needle, Mojam, Lewis Thompson, Mike Needle, Mojam, Neave Applebaum, and Digital Farm Animals. Corry produced the track with Digital Farm Animals, Thompson and Applebaum, while Scott and Needle were the vocal producers.

The Mojam duo, comprising Mustafa Omer and James Murray, have penned several of Anne-Marie's hits, including "Don't Play," "Kiss My (Uh-Oh)," and "Psycho." They also produced Aitch's "Buss Down" single.

Jamie Scott and Mike Needle are two of Tom Grennan's go-to songwriting partners. Their previous collaborations include "Little Bit Of Love" and "All These Nights."

Digital Farm Animals (real name: Nick Gale) previously worked with Grennan on KSI's "Not Over Yet" and Clean Bandit's "Everything But You."

Lewis Thompson and Neave Applebaum are Corry's regular production partners.
  • Joel Corry released "Lionheart (Come On England)" on November 21, 2022 to coincide with the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The new version features Sky Sports football commentator Martin Tyler.
