Jonas Brothers Artistfacts

  • The band originally formed from the ashes of a solo project for Nick, who appeared in numerous stage productions around New York. Around this time, Nick wrote a holiday song with his father, and soon after, his brother Joe also started doing stage productions. This is also when the brothers started to write songs together. Eventually, the holiday song was heard by an executive of Columbia Records, and the label signed on Nick, who, at the time, was jointly signed on to Columbia and INO Records. Nick's debut album soon had a limited release. Afterwards, Daylight/Columbia signed the three brothers on as a trio.
  • The Jonas Brothers were not an instant hit. They went on several tours, mainly as opening acts, and released their first album, It's Only Time, in 2006. The album had a very limited release, and the band was soon dropped by their label as Sony no longer had interest in promoting them. Hollywood Records picked them up in 2007 and released their self-titled album, which was a huge hit. >>

  • The brothers are Evangelical Christians and were homeschooled. They abstained from sex and wore "purity rings" as a symbol of their belief that sex should not occur until marriage.
  • Nick dated Miley Cyrus for a short time; Joe dated Taylor Swift.
  • Nick has Type-1 diabetes. Their song "A Little Bit Longer" is about his struggle with the disease.
  • Kevin Jonas wed former hairdresser Danielle Deleasa in 2009; in 2012 they got their own reality TV show, Married to Jonas, which lasted two seasons. They met while on holiday in the Bahamas in 2007.
  • The Jonas Brothers announced the disbanding of the group to People magazine on October 28, 2013. The sibling trio said they were going their separate ways, only weeks after canceling their tour citing "a deep rift within the band."

Five-and-a-half years later, The Jonas Brothers made a public reunion when they released "Sucker" on March 1, 2019.
  • Speaking with New York magazine, Joe Jonas revealed that despite growing up in a Pentecostal church that his father pastored, he no longer sees himself as religious. Joe credited part of his disillusionment to a scandal involving stolen money that rocked the congregation when he was 14. "After that the concept of church really upset me for a long time," he said. "I mean, I believe in God, and that's a personal relationship that I have, but I'm not religious in any way."
  • The band were originally named J3, which they all hated. Joe told New York magazine that he took matters into his own hands at the band's first ever concert. He recalled: "I remember turning to my brothers before that show and saying, 'Do you want our name to be J3 for the rest of our lives?' When we got onstage, I was the one to announce to the crowd, 'Hey, we're the Jonas Brothers'. Nice and simple."
  • Looking back on his experience of fame as a young teenager in an April 2015 interview on the UK show Lorraine, Nick Jonas said: "People actually caring you are dating at 14 is not a normal thing. But my parents are really good people, and they did a good job of helping us keep our heads on straight."

"But also, I think I had a really interesting outlook about it, I never really thought it was real. I just kind of [thought], 'This is all make-believe and I get to go and sing, and that's all I really care about'."
  • The three Jonas brothers teamed up to open the comfort food family restaurant Nellie's Southern Kitchen in Belmont, North Carolina in June 2016. The eatery, which was named after their great-grandmother Nellie, also serves as a live music venue.
  • Nick Jonas first asked Indian actress Priyanka Chopra out on social media, writing, "I'm hearing from a few mutual friends that we should meet." She replied: "Just text me?"

The pair eventually married at Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, India on December 1, 2018.
  • Joe Jonas started dating Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner in 2016 before tying the knot on May 1, 2019. Dan + Shay performed their song "Speechless" as Turner walked down the aisle during the Las Vegas ceremony. The pair were then married by an Elvis impersonator.
