Songfacts®:

  • The English have contributed more to contemporary music than most nationalities, and in the 1970s they contributed no less than three song titles which featured totally invented words. First there was UFO with "Prince Kajuku" (and the instrumental "Coming Of Prince Kajuku"). Then there was Mott The Hoople with "Honaloochie Boogie." And then Judie Tzuke with "Sukarita." (And that's only the ones that we know of!).

According to the lady herself, it "was a made up name meant to sound romantic and faraway."
  • According to the UK discography compiled by Mike Barrett and Adrian Shorter, "Sukarita" was issued twice in 1978 and again in 1979, each time as the B-side of "For You," and again in 1979 as the B-side of "Welcome To The Cruise." All these releases were on Elton John's Rocket label. >>>

  • Robin from BerkshireIf Sukarita was a born single to me. Had it been issued as a single, Judie’s career might not have stalled with her ‘that Difficult second album’. Sports car was ok…. The third, I am the phoenix was excellent but people had turned off her by then.
