Songfacts®:

  • Justin Bieber originally recorded this 75-second minimal hip-hop track as a bit of comic relief. If finds him poking fun at some of rap's stereotypes, such as:

    Violence:

    Please, no fighting
    I don't got energy

    And bedding multiple women

    All these hearts
    I used to break them
    But I've settle down

But, just like rappers, the Biebs desires to accumulate stacks of money

    Bills on bills
    I want to make them
    .
  • Bieber titled the song "I Feel Funny" to exhibit his lighthearted character to his fans. "I think the goal there was kind of to show my personality," he told Audacy's Kenzie K. "I'm a really silly guy, and life is kind of hard sometimes, so to be silly shows other people they cannot take themselves too seriously sometimes."
  • Bieber is not known for blending comedy and music. While he described the process as "really fun," he also used it as a nod to one of his favorite rappers in his early teen years. "Soulja Boy had a bunch of really silly songs," he said. "He had this song called 'Hey You There.' It was that kind of stuff that just kind of inspired me to be silly on the song."
  • When Bieber sent director Cole Bennett the song, they laughed about filming a music video for it. "Justin randomly texted me this song one day and said, 'Should we do a visual to this? Song straight to number one,'" explained Bennett. "We joked around about doing a video for it but never did."

Then, while they were filming the official video for "Honest," Bennett brought it up: "I went into his trailer and said 'Remember that song you sent me? Let's shoot a video for it on my phone in between takes of the actual video.'"
  • The spoof visual finds Bieber wearing an orange ski mask and running around the set. His "Honest" collaborator Don Toliver makes a cameo.
  • Bieber wrote and produced the bouncy hip-hop track himself. He released it on April 27, 2022 as a preview for "Honest."
