Songfacts®:

  • This seize-the-now song finds Perry singing about not dwelling on the past, and taking hold of the present and future. She croons:

"All we have is this moment
    Tomorrow's unspoken
    Yesterday is history
So why don't you be here with me?"

Perry was inspired to write the song after she heard the audio book of Eckhart Tolle's self-help guide The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment.
  • The song was produced by Stargate with the American hitmaker Benny Blanco. The Norwegian songwriting and production team were also responsible for the #1 hit "Firework" from Teenage Dream and also manned the boards on the Prism Deluxe edition bonus track, "It Takes Two," again with Blanco.
  • Perry performed this live for the first time on October 22, 2013 at an album release party with iHeartRadio in Los Angeles.
