  • Harry Wayne Casey and Richard Finch of KC & The Sunshine Band would go to Miami clubs to check out the scene and see what was getting people on the dance floor. They used these reconnaissance missions to make the kind of energetic, danceable music that became their trademark. "Queen Of Clubs" is about a woman who brings the party wherever she goes, keeping it swingin' well past midnight. A few years later, Sister Sledge sang about a similar character - but this time a guy - in their hit "He's The Greatest Dancer."
  • Released in 1974, this was the third single from KC & The Sunshine Band, following "Blow Your Whistle" and "Sound Your Funky Horn." These songs made the R&B chart, but didn't cross over to pop. "Queen Of Clubs" looked like a joker until their UK label decided the song was a hit, and put some promotional effort behind it.

"He took it back over to the UK and it went to #7 on the UK charts and was a hit all over Europe," Casey told Songfacts. "He said, 'You need to come over here and do a tour,' and I went, 'What?!'"

The song reached its UK chart peak in the summer of 1974, proving that their sound could find a white audience. KC & The Sunshine Band toured in the UK, and when they returned to America, they stayed the course and broke through with another dance-floor filler, "Get Down Tonight," which went to #1 in August 1975. With the group established on pop radio, "Queen Of Clubs" was re-issued in America in 1976, reaching #66.
