Songfacts®:

  • "Wildside" is a summery, upbeat song that celebrates a woman who lets loose and enjoys life. Keith Urban sings of a lady who typically behaves well but lets her guard down and embraces a more carefree side. She is a "Little Miss Angel five days of the week" but a party animal on the weekends.
  • Urban drew inspiration from the character Rosalie Mullins in the 2003 movie School of Rock. Mullins is a strict principal by day but lets loose with a rock band at night.
  • Urban wrote "Wildside" with songwriter Ashley Gorley (Cole Swindell's "She Had Me At Heads Carolina," Morgan Wallen's "Last Night"), Carrie Underwood's producer David Garcia, and regular Morgan Wallen and Hardy collaborator Ernest.
  • Urban co-produced "Wildside" with his regular partner in crime, Dann Huff. They blend elements of country music with a pop sensibility.
  • "Wildside" is a track from Urban's 12th album, High. Urban describes the album title as a celebration of life's highs, both big and small. "What makes you 'high' can mean whatever you want it to mean," he said. "It might be physical, spiritual, herbal, meditative, chemical, or musical, but it's definitely a place of utopia."

For Urban, these highs stem from the love of his family and friends, and the electrifying energy of live music. "Playing guitar, writing songs and the place where I always feel high – playing live. Every night I get a chance to bring an energy and a release to people."
