Songfacts®:

  • This song finds Kid Rock name-checking hits from the mid 20th century. He took inspiration from the yearly speeches by Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees recalling their youthful embrace of music. Rock told Detroit Free Press: "I tried to paint a picture of someone like me coming up and what I've seen, with bands trying to make it to the top."
  • This is one of several songs on Rebel Soul that features drumming by Vinnie Dombroski. The Detroit musician is best known for being the lead vocalist and main songwriter for the alternative rock band Sponge.
