• When Lauren Spencer Smith began working on her "Fantasy" track, she knew it needed something extra to truly capture the raw and powerful emotions of a breakup. She had a hunch that a collaboration could take the song to the next level, but she wasn't quite sure who or what that would look like.
  
  After some time, Lauren found herself constantly crossing paths with American singer-songwriters GAYLE and Em Beihold. The trio hit it off and even created a group chat they named the "Powerpuff" chat. As Lauren got to know GAYLE and Em better, she realized they were the perfect fit to bring girl power to her song.
  
  "I've always been a fan of GAYLE and Em's music, even before I met them,' Lauren shared in an interview with Billboard's Pop Shop Podcast. "So, after getting to know them and becoming close friends, I knew they were the perfect girls to help create a woman-empowerment moment in this song."
• "Fantasy" is a powerful kiss-off track that brings together the unique styles of Lauren Spencer Smith, GAYLE, and Em Beihold. Each of the three artists takes a turn to badmouth a former boyfriend.
• Lauren takes the lead on the chorus as she wonders when her ex will finally call and apologize for his toxic behavior. But even as she longs for closure, Lauren recognizes that she's been living in a fantasy and it's time to move on.
• For Lauren, the inspiration behind the song was to capture the pain and difficulty of poisonous relationships, and the power that comes with breaking free from them. "When writing 'Fantasy,' I wanted to capture how hard toxic relationships are and that coming out of those relationships can be so powerful," she said. "GAYLE and Em instantly connected with the topic and their verses helped take the song to another level."
• Songwriters and producers Jason Evigan and Sean Douglas are both based in Los Angeles. Jason Evigan is known for his work with artists such as Demi Lovato ("Heart Attack") Maroon 5 ("Girls Like You") and Dua Lipa ("Physical"). Sean Douglas' resumé includes hits by both country artists (Thomas Rhett's "Die a Happy Man," Dan + Shay's "I Should Probably Go to Bed") and pop stars (Demi Lovato's "Sorry Not Sorry," Meghan Trainor's "Made You Look").
