Songfacts®:

  • "Love the Hell Out of You" revolves around Lewis Capaldi reaffirming his commitment to his romantic partner, who seems to be going through a rough patch. It's a promise, a declaration of war on whatever's trying to bring her down.

But it's not just one-way traffic. Capaldi is quick to point out that she's been his rock too. They've been through a lot together, these two. So when he sings about loving her "the hell out of you," he's not just talking about passion; he means he'll be her shield, her sword, her everything.
  • Capaldi co-wrote this heartfelt piano ballad with his regular collaborators, the songwriting team TMS ("Someone You Loved" and "Before You Go"). Joining them were Phil Plested, who also helped write "Before You Go," and Michael Pollack, who has penned hits for Maroon 5 and Miley Cyrus.
  • The song came together on the same day as Capaldi's UK chart-topper "Forget Me," making it, as Capaldi told Apple Music, "a very, very fruitful day."

He added: "When I came in, Phil and Michael were knocking around this idea of, like, loving the hell out of someone in the sense you love them so much but that idea of also someone loving you so much that they've taken away all this s--t that you're going through."
  • "Love The Hell Out Of You" plays a significant role in the 2024 romantic film It Ends With Us. The song features prominently in the final scenes of the movie and continues into the beginning of the credits. Capaldi's big ballad complements the emotional impact of the film's conclusion.
