Songfacts®:

  • When Liam Gallagher announced he was releasing his first Christmas song, many imagined it would be a rowdy ode to drinking. But rather than celebrating the merry tradition of over indulging on booze, the Oasis singer came up with a ballad about love and hope. Inspired by the COVID pandemic, he sings of love triumphing "when the world is at its worst."
  • The song first emerged in the summer of 2020 when Liam Gallagher put a spin on an idea created by his co-writer Simon Aldred ("For What It's Worth," "Now That I've Found You").
  • The track was subsequently produced by Gallagher's long-term collaborator Andrew Wyatt. The American co-wrote with Gallagher nine out of the 11 tracks on Why Me? Why Not including its lead single, "Shockwave."
  • Speaking on the BBC Radio 2's breakfast show, Liam said there was no particular reason for recording the song - he was "just making music." He added that it "popped up around the beginning of lockdown" and decided to release it in the run up to Yuletide as it was perfect for this time of year. "It had a bit of a Christmassy vibe to it," he said. "It's not a cheesy vibe; I thought it sounded like a Bing Crosby vibe."
  • Proceeds of the song are going to Action For Children, which works to protect and support vulnerable children and young people across the UK. Gallagher explained: "It's all about the children really, children are most important. My mam had three children and my dad left and all that tackle, it's hard work for single parents... it's a good charity."
  • Peaky Blinders director Anthony Byrne helmed the song's wintery, black-and-white video. Byrne previously directed Gallagher's "One of Us" clip.

The video starts with Gallagher singing in front of a grand open fireplace. He then treks through a snowy woodland illuminated by Christmas lights. The clip's final shot reveals the message "This is not here" etched on a windowpane, referencing the visuals for John Lennon's "Imagine," which contains the same phrase.
  • Liam Gallagher revealed in his own special way his motivation for donating the song proceeds to charity. Speaking to Radio X's Johnny Vaughan, he joked: "I just looked over the wall at my gold Damien Hirst collection and my Andy Warhol collection and thought... I've got enough!"
  • In the UK, "All You're Dreaming Of" was the top-selling single on vinyl in 2020.

  • Tim W from Southern Indiana, UsaJust discovered this unbelievably beautiful song a few days ago… and have been playing in continuously since.
Thinking about singing this to my new wife on our wedding day…. Any thoughts? For some reason it just reminds me of her… I don’t know why though.
  • Linet from St17 9qgI absolutely love this song. Beautiful words and melody. Didn't know he had it in him to write such a spell binding song.
  • Ian Spencer from Solihull, UkOasis always had a reputation for pastiche, though often you couldn't quite finger what it was derived from.

Unfortunately, the source for this one is an unfortunate combination of Gilbert O'Sullivan and Hugh Grant from Music and Lyrics.
