Songfacts®:

  • Following failed marriages with Patsy Kensit and Nicole Appleton, Liam Gallagher started dating his personal assistant Debbie Gwyther in 2013. During this rhythm-led cut, the onetime Oasis frontman is traveling on a plane. He bemoans the separation from Debbie and hopes she feels the same way.
  • While the verses are clearly about a separation from his loved one, on the chorus Liam takes inspiration from his brother Noel's faux nonsense lyrics for Oasis ("Champagne Supernova" is a prime example).

I'm shining like a Diamond in the dark
I'm floating like a lion in the ark
  • Gallagher wrote the song with Michael Tighe and Andrew Wyatt. Previous Gallagher and Wyatt collaborations include the singles "Wall of Glass," "Chinatown," and "Better Days."
  • Andrew Wyatt also co-produced "Diamond In The Dark" with Emile Haynie. Wyatt's fellow American has worked with both rap acts (Kanye West, Kid Cudi, Eminem) and pop singers (Lana Del Rey, Bruno Mars, Florence + the Machine).
  • Critics equated the production to Oasis covering a track from Arctic Monkeys' AM album. In particular, they likened the guitar hook to the riff from "Do I Wanna Know?"
  • Liam Gallagher released "Diamond In The Dark" as the fourth single from C'mon You Know. Gallagher named the album after the catchphrase used by Sky Sports' Soccer Saturday host Jeff Stelling and parodied by Soccer AM's Fenners.
  • Liam Gallagher dropped a DJ Premier remix on August 12, 2022. The East Coast producer created a grooving hip-hop beat without major changes to the song's original structure.

DJ Premier is best known for working with the likes of Dr. Dre, Jay-Z, Nas and Notorious B.I.G., and his spin on "Diamond In The Dark" marks Gallagher's first official remix. "I have always been a huge fan of remixing songs," the producer explained. "To get an opportunity to make one over Liam's incredible vocal sound and style guided me to making it bounce high like a rubber ball filled with too much air."
