Songfacts®:

  • "All I Want (for Christmas)" starts off as a melancholic ballad about a ruptured relationship. However, by verse two, Liam Payne has worked things out with his lover, enabling them to celebrate Christmas together.
  • Phil Cook, James Newman and Sam Preston wrote this piano ballad. Payne recorded the track in London and released it as a single on October 25, 2019. It's included as a bonus track on his debut studio album, LP1.
  • The animated lyric video shows Payne wandering a wintry forest with his trusty wolf companion. Together they ponder the problems in the singer's romance.
  • German singer-songwriter Zoe Wees recorded "All I Want (for Christmas)" as an Amazon Original Song in 2022. "I know that Christmas can be a tough time for so many people," she said. "I wanted to dedicate this cover to those who feel lonely in this time of the year and need some hope to get through it."

Wees' version peaked at #64 on the UK singles chart - nine places higher than Payne's original version.
