Songfacts®:

  • Linkin Park drummer Rob Bourdon in Kerrang! magazine: "This is probably the heaviest song on the album. It was initially called 'EBow Idea.' Rick (Rubin producer) told Brad (Delson, guitar) that he should use an Ebow (guitar effect) on a different song. When he went in to work on that, he got frustrated and came up with the opening for this."

  • Hi from Montana Cut Bankthis is one of my favorite songs
  • Luna Loud from Royal Woods, MichiganYou can get a similar effect with a compression sustainer that's built into some guitars like Fernandez guitars particularly and it's activated by a switch.
  • James from NowhereMaverick:
"Minutes to Midnight is the third studio album by American rock band Linkin Park, released on May 14, 2007"

That's strange. Obama ran for president in 2008 and took office in 2009. Hmmmmm... I wonder who could have been the president in 2007.
  • Maverick from Houston, TexasEveryone keeps saying this is about Bush, but it's not. It's about Obama and his administration.
  • Shadow from Depression, VaZero from NJ, you should never trust Wikipedia
  • Zero from Nowhere, NjLilly, Elsam didn't say Chester became a liar and/or thief, he/she was talking about the people in Chester's life. I personally do belive that he's talking about the Bush administration, though as apparent in the lyrics, and in general M2M was a more politically-based album. Also to expand on the EBow songfact, it's not really an "effect" so much as a device. It uses an elctromagnetic field that when touching the strings gives the notes a sustained effect. If you're interested you can find out more at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EBow.
  • Lilly from Chester, United Kingdomchester did not become liars and thieves abuse power with greed it was more the politions that made chester like that get your facts straight!!!!!!!
  • Eslam from Cairo, EgyptI agree that this song is another political driven sound but it could express another personal point of view as chester felt like a victim for someone else and may be for the life itself as the people went really bad and became ( liars and thieves abuse power with greed )
  • Aditya from Hyderabad, IndiaThis song is criticism of Bush's war on Iraq
  • James S. from Hayward, CaI am guessing this is another Political driven sound, explaining that with all the deceit and and the smoke and mirrors that bush had used. Has finally caught up with him and the administration.
