Songfacts®:

  • This song was originally commissioned by Judd Apatow for Loudon Wainwright III's dysfunctional father character to sing to Adam Sandler in an episode of the early 2000s sitcom Undeclared. It was left out of the show, but Wainwright's performance can be found amongst the deleted scenes included on the Undeclared DVD set.

Thirteen years re-recorded the song for his Haven't Got the Blues (Yet) album.
  • Wainwright explained the song is about "death and decay meeting s--t love."
