Songfacts®:

  • Buckle up, because "Si No Quieres No" ("If You Don't Want To, Don't") is a wild ride into the world of Mexican narcocorridos. This collaboration between Mexican singers Luis R. Conriquez and Neton Vega is a prime example of the genre, diving headfirst into the violent and drug-fueled world of cartels.
  • The song throws you right into the life of a hitman and his loyalty to a powerful cartel leader named Archivaldo Guzmánes. The lyrics are raw and unapologetic, bragging about the hitman's ruthlessness, love for fast cars, and taste for the finer things in life (with a not-so-subtle mention of women).
  • Conriquez and Vega wrote the song and co-produced it with Conriquez's regular producer, Carlos Santos.
  • Critics slam narcocorridos for glamorizing violence and the drug trade, and "Si No Quieres No" is no exception. It's a dark and unflinching portrayal of a dangerous reality. But that controversy didn't stop the song from being popular within the genre. It shot up the charts in Mexico, reaching #2, and cracked the US Hot 100.

This isn't Conriquez's first rodeo on the American charts – the Sonora-born singer has regularly visited the Billboard listings since his single "El Buho" reached #19 on Hot Latin Songs in 2021.

As for Vega, "Si No Quieres No" is his first chart hit.
