Songfacts®:

  • "Ain't No Love in Oklahoma" was written and recorded by Luke Combs for the soundtrack of the 2024 film Twisters, a reboot of the 1996 blockbuster Twister. The disaster movie was filmed in the state of Oklahoma in the heart of tornado alley.
  • The song explodes with the first verse, as Combs sings of the risks storm chasers face. In the second verse, he explores these thrill seekers' twisted attraction to the very thing that could rip them apart.
  • Combs wrote the song with Nashville songwriters Jonathan Singleton (Luke Combs' "Beer Never Broke My Heart," Maddie & Tae's "Die From a Broken Heart") and Jessi Alexander (Miley Cyrus' "The Climb," Morgan Wallen's "Don't Think Jesus").
  • Combs and Singleton co-produced the song with Chip Matthews. Singleton and Matthews have been Combs' regular production partners since his 2019 album What You See Is What You Get.
  • Luke Combs was tapped to contribute a song for the Twister reboot and co-wrote "Ain't No Love in Oklahoma" with Jessi Alexander and Jonathan Singleton without having seen a single frame of the film. Instead of footage, the filmmakers gave him a general sense of the tone and themes they were aiming for.

"It was interesting, writing it without having seen anything," Combs told Bobby Bones. "Obviously, if it was a movie I was unaware of, like, if Twister didn't exist, that would have been a lot more difficult, not having some idea of what was going to happen. But it was fun. It was exciting to do."

"Ain't No Love in Oklahoma" captures the raw power of a storm with its driving beat and searing guitar riffs.

"This song is about everything that I think this movie is about," Combs told Audacy. "High-energy, high-octane, I think the song really musically matches that vibe. It's really sort of abstract, lyrically speaking, I think that was done intentionally. We were really just trying to sonically match the vibe that they were looking for with this film."
  • The Alex Bitta-directed video incorporates footage from Twisters interspersed with stormy performance footage of Combs.
