  • In this ballad from her Reckless Thoughts album, country-rock singer-songwriter Maia Sharp shares a trick for facing her fears. "'Too Far Now' is how I trick myself to keep going even when I'm thinking about turning back," she told Songfacts in a 2023 track-by-track interview. "Just go a little further, then a little further and the next thing I know I'm too far to turn around and I might as well see it through."
  • Sharp wrote the first verse and brought it in to her co-writer Mando Saenz ("Bad Boy"), who came up with the idea for the song's winking monster who keeps the singer's fears at bay. She said, "He kicked off the second verse with, 'There's a monster in me who scares away the fear,' and I knew I had brought the idea to the right person."
  • This was the second album Sharp produced since moving from her native California to Nashville (the first was 2021's Mercy Rising). She told Songfacts how she approached this particular track, which includes a nod to her roots as a saxophonist.

"Production-wise I tried to keep it as hypnotic as possible like a mantra," she said. "Then, just before it was time to mix, I decided to dust off the tenor sax (my first instrument) and bring a '90s-style solo to it. My face hurt for a while but it was worth it."
  • Sharp released the album through her own record label, Crooked Crown, which she founded in 2009 to self-release her Echo album.
  • Although Sharp has been steadily working in the music business for more than 25 years, she worries about the sustainability of her career as a singer-songwriter in the modern music industry.

"As royalty streams are less and less and fewer people purchase music, touring and sync placements become critical for survival," she told 100 Percent Rock magazine in 2023. "Sync placements may or may not happen and touring, at some point, is going to be too physically demanding. I'm strong and ready for anything now but can I keep this up long enough for the next ship to come in? That's the question we're all facing."
