Songfacts®:

  • Running 5:22, "Jet City Woman" was written by Queensrÿche guitarist Chris DeGarmo and lead singer Geoff Tate. The third track on Empire, it was released as a single backed by the acoustic remix of "I Dream In Infra-Red."

When Songfacts spoke with Geoff Tate, he said, "In general, it's a song about being lonely and being away from the person that you love. And dealing with the time spent apart. It explores the idea of longing, what that is. And Jet City, of course, is the nickname for Seattle, where it all ties in."
  • Geoff Tate's first wife, whom he was dating when he wrote this song, was a flight attendant. When we asked him if the song was about her, he replied, "I guess it is, in a sense."
  • Jet City alludes to Seattle; Queensrÿche started in Bellevue, Washington, a 10 mile drive from same. After quitting the band, lead guitarist Chris DeGarmo became a charter pilot! >>>
