Songfacts®:

  • This song, like several other Overexposed tracks, finds Adam Levine in a dysfunctional relationship. This time, however, he is the victim. "I was the man who never lied. Never lied until today. But I couldn't break your heart like you did mine yesterday," croons Levine.
  • Levine penned the song with the collaboration of Brian "Sweetwesty" West and Marius Moga. Noah "Mailbox" Passovoy produced the tune.

Brian "Sweetwesty" West is the lead guitarist for the Canadian band The Philosopher Kings. He co-wrote and co-produced most of the tracks on Nelly Furtado's first two albums, Whoa, Nelly and Folklore including her breakthrough single "I'm Like a Girl."
Marius Moga is a well-known Romanian composer who is known as "Little Mozart." Moga owns a studio in Bucharest, Romania, but regularly flies to London and Los Angeles, working with upcoming artists. He also has placed songs on various movie soundtracks including the ones for Domino and 7 Seconds.
Noah "Mailbox" Passovoy is a Los-Angeles based mixer and engineer who also worked on Maroon 5's hit tune, "Payphone." Other artists he has collaborated with include Gomez, Olivia Newton-John and Donna Summer.
