Songfacts®:

  • The lead single from Forever Neverland finds MØ linking up again with the Major Lazer producer Diplo. The Danish pop star's collaboration with Major Lazer and DJ Snake, "Lean On," held the record for 11 months as the most-streamed song of all time.

"Diplo and I are long time collaborators now," MØ said. "One of the many reasons I love working with him is because I always feel like it's a free and creative process and I always like the end product. We both loved 'Sun In Our Eyes' from the beginning and what makes it special to me is that it's a combination of the two ingredients I'm always craving in music: uplifting and melancholy vibes."
  • MØ said in a press release that "Sun In Our Eyes" is about imaginary love and living in a bubble. She explained: "It circles the subject of being unwilling to accept the truth. You wanna keep riding the high even though you deep down know it might be wrong and that it's all a self-made illusion."
  • The David Helman-directed (The Weeknd, Zayn) video follows the same theme as the song of people attempting to distract themselves from reality. It follows MØ, Diplo, and a group of youngsters hanging out a boat as the sun sets. Speaking about the clip, MØ said:

"The video for 'Sun In Our Eyes' shows a gang of people who have chosen to break off from society and create their own world. Peter Pan and the lost boys – sailing instead of flying – setting out for distant shores in hopes of finding and living out their dreams. Collectively they are rejecting the harsh reality of the lives and the world they used to live in."
  • Mo told Billboard that she has done so many songs with Diplo that are "rooted in the tropical EDM world," she decided to go a different direction with this one. Unlike the Danish singer's other cuts with the American producer this one doesn't have a drop.
