Songfacts®:

  • This song refers to how much lead singer Isaac Brock's family and friends have influenced him and brought him through this world. His brother died in 2004, and although he says that he does not hang on to things, you can clearly tell that he is expressing his feeling through this song. >>>

  • Jess from Kannapolis, NcThumbs up @ Jake... You said it man.
  • Violet from Baltimore, Mdi agree with jake. Modest mouse isn't fake and they don't write about stuff that doesn't apply to them. All their lyrics are personal and you can tell how much they put into their music. I'm not altogether sure on the meaning of this song but my guess is that he's upset about something and may be upset with himself for something ("didn't mean to laugh, didn't know i had.."). I'm assuming the phrase I'm just a box in a cage mean he feels trapped.... That might be totally wrong but that's just my impression of the song
  • Jake from San Fran, CaOne of the reasons Modest Mouse has such a big cult following, I think, is because of the real emtion in there music. You can feel the truthfulness in every song. Thanks for not faking it.
