Songfacts®:

  • Born in Jacksonville, Florida, Nardo Wick was a sly kid who wanted to be wealthy from an early age. By the time he reached high school, Wick started selling drugs but that quickly fizzled once his mom found out. At 14, Wick started writing rhymes into his phone, and he soon realized that rapping could be his road to riches. His breakthrough came with his Top 20 US single "Who Want Smoke??"

Like "Who Want Smoke," "Dah Dah DahDah" is a violent song centered on the gangsta lifestyle. Wick warns his opps that he's got plenty of weapons and he's ready to use them to solve his problems.
  • On the bridge, Wick samples a children's song about the Gingerbread Man fairy tale.

Run, run, as fast you can
You can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man

In the fairy tale, a gingerbread man comes to life after being baked. He flees from various pursuers who want to eat him but eventually is devoured by a fox. Here, Wick compares the moves of his enemies to those of the Gingerbread Man. Like the ill-fated fairy tale character, they think the rapper won't catch up with them.

Other well-known rappers have referenced the Gingerbread Man, including Tyga on Young Money's 2014 cut "Senile," where he says:

Gingerbread Man run while you can
  • Wick flips Suzanne Vega's ad-libbed Doo-doo-doo-doo, doo-doo-doo-doo outro for "Tom's Diner" on his intro and outro. Producers Trademark and Wheretfisray also interpolate the lead melody of "Tom's Diner" for the piano.
  • Nardo Wick released "Dah Dah DahDah" as the lead single from the deluxe version of Who Is Nardo Wick? on July 22, 2022.
