• NF's real name is Nathan John Feuerstein, born in the small town of Gladwin, Michigan. He grew up there, attended Gladwin High School, and played on the school basketball team.
• His early life was marked by instability. "We lived in a trailer for a while. My parents got divorced when I was young," NF told The Guardian.
  
  After his parents split, he shuffled between living with his father, his grandparents, and his mother and her boyfriend, during which he and one of his sisters were abused.
  
  NF's mother died from an opioid overdose in 2009, a loss he processes in his 2016 cut "How Could You Leave Us."
• Music began as an emotional outlet rather than a career plan. NF used rap to cope with anger and frustration, often retreating to his bedroom to record homemade tracks. His first "studio" was a karaoke machine setup: one microphone aimed at a CD player for the beat, the other for his freestyle, all captured straight onto cassette tapes; his first mixtapes, literally.
• Raised in a Christian household, NF grew up listening to faith-driven rappers like Lecrae, Andy Mineo, and Gospel Gangstaz, influences that helped shape his introspective and moral tone even as he moved toward mainstream hip-hop.
• In his late teens, NF worked as an electrician by day while uploading self-produced songs to YouTube at night. A small but meaningful early win came when he placed second at a national Fine Arts Festival rap competition in 2008.
• Before "NF" existed as a brand, he independently released an album called Moments in 2010 under his real name, Nate Feuerstein.
• His career shifted in 2014 when he became the first hip-hop artist signed to Capitol Christian Music Group (formerly EMI CMG). The label positioned him in the Christian-rap space, but NF pushed back against that categorization, saying he wanted to be viewed simply as a hip-hop artist who happens to be Christian.
• NF's mainstream breakthrough came with his 2017 album Perception, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200. The single "Let You Down" became a global hit, reaching #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and charting in the top 10 in multiple countries.
• NF married fitness influencer Bridgette Doremus in September 2018. She appears in his personal life but rarely in the spotlight; their relationship inspired the song "Time," where NF reflects on the struggles he brings into the marriage and the support she has given him.
• He has spoken openly about dealing with OCD, including how obsessive perfectionism affected his 2023 album Hope, which took more than a year and a half to finish and eventually led him to seek treatment from a specialist.
• A key part of NF's appeal is his self-contained artistic universe, built on recurring symbols:

• NF remains resolutely low-profile. He avoids the celebrity spotlight, rarely gives interviews, and often takes long breaks between tours, traits that make him seem almost allergic to fame.
