Songfacts®:

  • "Right Now" was originally written by Nick Jonas with American singer-songwriter Skylar Grey, whose other credits include Eminem and Rihanna's "Love The Way You Lie," Dr. Dre's "I Need a Doctor" and Kehlani's "Gangsta."

Jonas sat on the romantic tune for a while, as he waited for the right producer to collaborate with. Finally, he hooked up with German DJ Robin Schulz, who added a dancehall-inspired electronic instrumentation.
  • The song finds Jonas yearning for his lover to return from some far-off land.

Right now, you know I miss your body
So I won't kiss nobody until you come back home
And I swear, the next time that I hold you
I won't let you go nowhere
You'll never be alone, I'll never let you go

The lyrics were inspired by Skylar Grey's love for her boyfriend Elliot. She explained something Elliot always used to say to her when she was away touring or on writing trips was "I swear, the next time I have you in my arms I'm never letting you go."
