  • "No Scotland, No Party" began as a labor of love from Nick Morgan, a postman and musician from Prestwick, who wrote the song to celebrate Scotland's qualification for UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany. Rather than pretending Scotland had suddenly transformed into world-beaters, Morgan embraced a more distinctly Scottish outlook: cautious optimism mixed with the lingering suspicion that something could still go wrong.

"The theme of the song is basically we know we're not this amazing team, we know we're not Argentina," Morgan told BBC Scotland. "We're not world champions, but we've got these amazing players and we've got this belief."
  • The lyrics trace Scotland's often turbulent relationship with major tournaments, recalling France '98, the long years spent watching everyone else qualify, and the memorable victory over Spain that helped book their ticket to Germany.
  • The title is a playful adaptation of the football ultra slogan "No pyro, no party," a phrase used by supporters who believe football atmospheres are improved by setting fire to things. Morgan's version swaps flares for national pride, suggesting that any football celebration is incomplete without Scotland and the Tartan Army in attendance.
  • The song borrows its melody from "La Mano de Dios" ("The Hand of God"), a 2000 hit by Argentine singer Rodrigo Bueno. The original paid tribute to Diego Maradona and referenced his infamous handball goal against England at the 1986 World Cup. Rodrigo is one of the most celebrated figures in cuarteto music, a genre native to Argentina's Córdoba province. His life ended tragically in June 2000 when he was killed in a motorway crash at just 27, an age that has become unnervingly crowded in popular music history.

Morgan discovered the song while watching tributes to Maradona following the football icon's death in 2020. One clip showed Maradona singing along with family and friends in a crowded bar. "I instantly fell for the song," Morgan said. "It was simply irresistible." Before long, he had reworked it into a Scottish football anthem.
  • The tune struck a chord well beyond Scotland. It amassed millions of views on TikTok and attracted attention from Argentine television and radio, where audiences appreciated the unlikely journey of a beloved Maradona tribute becoming the soundtrack to Scotland's summer football adventure.
  • During Euro 2024, the Tartan Army adopted "No Scotland, No Party" as its unofficial anthem. The terrace version celebrates Scotland's stars with lines such as

We know we ain't no Argentina,
    But we've got John McGinn...

    Before building to the chorus:

    No Scotland, No Party,
    Steve Clarke's Tartan Army!

The song joined a proud tradition of unofficial Scotland football anthems. At Euro 2020, supporters had revived Baccara's disco hit "Yes Sir, I Can Boogie," proving once again that Scottish football fans possess an uncanny ability to turn almost any song into a stadium singalong, often with greater enthusiasm than accuracy.
  • Morgan released the official music video in May 2024, accompanied by a live acoustic performance recorded at Sound Magic Studios in Ayr the following month. Two years later, after Scotland secured qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, he returned with a World Cup 2026 Edition. Released on June 11, 2026, the updated version gave the song a second life and earned it its first appearance on the UK Singles Chart.
