Songfacts®:

  • PartyNextDoor created this song with frequent collaborator Neenyo during a long overnight session at OVO's S.O.T.A. studios. Neenyo recalled to Genius:

"We had done a couple of consecutive days in the studio, about 12 hours each. I believe this session went about 16 hours of non-stop creating. It was about 4 or 5 a.m., the only ones still awake were me and Party. I started making the beat and Party immediately had ideas, really just talking about things happening that week. The song was originally called '4AM In Toronto,' we did a lot of it in one or two takes off the top of his head. I remember being amazed how fluid his idea came out and how Party flipped the beat by adding new textures. We woke everyone up and played it for them."
  • The original title of "4AM In Toronto" was probably changed to "Transparency," because PND's OVO boss, Drake, had released songs with similar titles, including "4PM In Calabasas", "5AM In Toronto" and "6PM in New York."
