Paul Weller explained: "It's the song I play to the kids to make them fall asleep! (laughs). I dip in and out of all sorts of music. I don't see genres - you just listen to different things at different times. This was inspired by my interest in (French Composers) Eric Satie, Debussy and an English composer called William Walton."
"It's the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)" was inspired by a dream where Michael Stipe conjured up images of people with the initials L.B.: Lester Bangs, Leonid Breshnev, Lenny Bruce and Leonard Bernstein.
The chorus of "Voulez-vous coucher avec moi ce soir" in "Lady Marmalade" is French for "Do you want to sleep with me tonight?" When Labelle performed it on television, they had to change it to "Voulez-vous danser avec moi ce soir" (Do you want to dance with me tonight?).
