Songfacts®:

  • Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder wrote this '80s new-wave influenced track with the group's bass player, Jeff Ament. Vedder explained to the Toronto Globe and Mail: "I'm talking about music to put on when you don't know how you're going to get to work, when you're just not feeling it. It rains in Seattle 220 days a year on average – there's a lot of mornings it's hard to get going. This song will do it."
  • Pearl Jam debuted this Backspacer track on June 1, 2009 on The Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien well ahead of the album's September 20 release date. They planned to play the first single from the album, "The Fixer," but decided not to after bootlegs of that one leaked on the internet.
