Songfacts®:

  • A fair proportion of Grace/Wastelands was written in Paris, including this song, which credits Doherty's former Libertines bandmate, Carl Barat, as co-writer. Doherty told Clash Magazine that Barat contributed the line, "Your boyfriend's name was Dave / I was bold and brave." In addition, Doherty told the NME magazine that "the title is the title of a novel Carl's sister wrote." Then added, "there's misogyny, hotel rooms and weird positions."
