• "When I Get There" is a poignant ballad about the afterlife. Pink dedicated the song to her late father, Jim Moore, who passed away in August 2021 following an eight-year battle with prostate cancer. She believes he's now in heaven and they will be reunited there.
• In the opening verse, Pink cannot stop thinking about her late father.
  
  During the chorus, she asks him how he's doing up there in heaven. Pink hopes her father is enjoying his favorite earthly activities, such as watching sunsets, spending time with his friends and sharing his favorite music.
  
  The second verse touches on Pink's curiosity about whether her father is still thinking about her, maybe wishing she'd slow down.
• Amy Wadge and David Hodges wrote the heartfelt song with the latter also producing it. "When I Get There" was heaven sent for Pink. When she received it, the singer was numb with grief, as her father was about to pass away. "It came to me when my dad was sick," she told Apple Music. "And I said, 'This is my song. This has to be my song. This is my song.' And I was able to play it for him before he died. And it's just a beautiful thing."
  
  "It's just one of those simple, how do you write that? Right? I couldn't write that," Pink added. "I'm not ready to write that song, so that it came to me at this time was not an accident."
• David Hodges started his music career as a co-writer and keyboardist for Evanescence. He left the band in 2002 and found success co-writing and co-producing for various popular artists, including Kelly Clarkson ("Because Of You"), Christina Perri ("A Thousand Years"), Avril Lavigne ("Here's To Never Growing Up") and Ed Sheeran ("Afterglow").
  
  A childhood friend of Ed Sheeran, Amy Wadge's co-writes with her pal include the hit singles "Thinking Out Loud" and "Galway Girl." In 2022 she co-penned the UK's entry to the Eurovision Song Contest, Sam Ryder's "Space Man."
• Pink chose "When I Get There" as the opening track of her Trustfall album. "I feel like we're all in this constant state of overwhelm, and so we put our feelings away just so that we can get through a day," she explained to Variety. "I wanted to find a way back to the truth and the authentic feelings. So opening the album with that, instead of like, 'Hey, let's ease into each other,' it's like, 'No, no. Sit down. I want to talk to you. We're gonna clear all the bull---t away and have a conversation.' That's how I am as a person. If you ask me how I am, how much time do you have? So 'When I Get There' as an album-opener was my way of saying, 'Let's talk about real stuff.'"
