"Indecision" brings together Rex Orange County and Canadian singer-songwriter Daniel Caesar for a quietly painful song about the moment a relationship has probably run its course, but neither person can quite summon the courage to admit it. Released as a single on August 19, 2026, it was their second official collaboration, following their 2025 double single "Rearrange My World / There's a Field (That's Only Yours)."
The title pretty much gives away the problem. Both singers are stuck in that miserable emotional waiting room where you know something needs to change but you keep hoping the other person will make the hard choice for you. Over gentle acoustic guitar, Rex kicks off the song with the chorus, asking if "it's gettin' to that time" to walk away and wondering if his partner would even notice if he did. With neither person willing to pull the plug, the relationship sits stranded somewhere between alive and over.
Daniel Caesar takes the song's only verse, looking back on a romance that started when they were both "naive," "young" and "green." He recognizes he has only stayed because his partner tolerates his faults, not because things are actually working out. That realization spirals into jealousy and self-sabotage.
Rex and Caesar wind up in the same spot: heartbreak because they can't make up their minds. There's no big villain, no slammed door and no dramatic final argument, just two people staring at the exit, waiting for someone else to open it.
Caesar wrote and demoed the track by himself around 2020, back when it was called "Let Me Know." He intended it for Pseudomutuality, an album he recorded around 2021.
Caesar made most of that record in a home studio he built in the south of France during the pandemic. He took a solitary approach, playing around 80% of the instruments himself while collaborators like Dylan Wiggins occasionally dropped in to offer ideas. Pseudomutuality was never officially released, though a rough version of "Let Me Know" leaked online in mid-2025.
By that point, Rex Orange County and Caesar had developed a tight studio partnership. They co-wrote and co-produced several songs for Caesar's fourth album, Son of Spergy (released October 24, 2025). "Let Me Know" was considered for that tracklist as well, but it was dropped at the last minute.
Rex wasn't about to let the track sit in the vault forever. He pushed to finish it, and the pair revisited the demo toward the end of 2025 alongside Dylan Wiggins and Aaron Paris. Together, they reworked the original recording into "Indecision," and after sitting on a hard drive for six years, the song finally got its official release.
Wiggins first became one of Caesar's main collaborators in 2023 when he co-produced "Do You Like Me?" alongside Raphael Saadiq. He went on to executive-produce Never Enough (2023) and worked extensively on Son of Spergy. His wider credits include work with Rosalía, Justin Bieber, SZA and The Weeknd.
Aaron Paris, a classically trained string player and producer, contributed the violin and viola parts to "Indecision." His involvement adds an extra layer to what is otherwise an understated arrangement.
Speaking on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders, Rex praised the songwriting structure: "To me, the chords and the structure and the bridge, the bridge is like the most perfect bridge on a song," he said. "And phenomenal melodies, really perfect direct songwriting. And I don't know, it's just super inspiring hearing it at the time. And to me, it was just such a perfect song. So it kind of was surprising that it didn't make it, so here we are."
The music video was directed and shot by Rhys Scarabosio in Montana. We see Rex and Caesar performing alone across wide-open fields and empty dirt roads without their partners ever appearing on screen, a visual echo of the song's theme of isolation and unresolved heartbreak.
