Songfacts®:

  • Green writes most of his own songs, but "Beach Happy" isn't one of them. The comical track, which finds the country singer chilling on the beach after ditching his cheating ex-girlfriend, was written by Nashville scribe Randy Montana. Green hung onto the tune for years until he finally found a place for it on his 2026 album, That's Just Me.

"It's not quite commercial. It's a little risque," he told the Off The Record podcast. "And I knew that that's the kind of song I wanted to put on a record."
  • The lyrics have fun with the word "beach," and use it in place of a similar-sounding pejorative to describe an unpleasant woman. "I don't want her back," he sings. "'Cause there's no makin' that beach happy." Green is a big fan of wordplay, which he incorporated in songs like "Lookout Mountain."
  • With the inclusion of "Beach Happy," Green wanted to evoke the vibe of Blake Shelton's beach-themed hits, like "Some Beach," and the playfulness of Toby Keith's songwriting. He also pays tribute to Keith on "Think As You Drunk," which samples the late country star's "As Good As I Once Was."
