Songfacts®:

  • The lead single from Country Life sees Bryan Ferry showcasing his tender and sincere side as he sings about his deep love and affection for a girl. While he often takes on the role of the playboy in his songs, Ferry expresses a genuine desire to spend the rest of his life with his sweetheart here:

Don't want to know about one-night stands
    Cut-price souvenirs
All I want is the real thing
And a night that lasts for years
  • While Ferry writes most of his songs alone, he wrote this rocky number with Roxy Music guitarist Phil Manzanera. Ferry told Classic Pop on November 8, 2022: "It's a guitar-based track so it has a different flavor from most of my other songs which are usually written on piano. I was beginning to enjoy songwriting collaborations within the band."
  • "All I Want Is You" was a hit single in the UK, spending eight weeks on the chart and peaking at #12. The B-side, an instrumental called "Your Application's Failed," is the only piece of music written by Paul Thompson, with the title said to allude to a time when the Roxy Music drummer was turned down for a role on the London Underground.
