• "Happen to Me" is Russell Dickerson's cheerful ode to what happens when heartbreak, tequila, and 1980s pop classics collide on a Saturday night. And, honestly, haven't we all been there?
  
  The story, as so many good ones do, takes place in a bar. A woman, recently separated from someone who no doubt deserved it, is throwing back shots of tequila with the reckless determination of someone who's already passed the point of no return. She's belting out "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" like she wrote it herself. Dickerson grabs a stool beside her and they talk, drink and dance together. Before long, he is falling for this tequila-fueled woman.
• Russell Dickerson co-wrote "Happen to Me" with Chase McGill (known for Kane Brown's "Lose It" and Cole Swindell's "Break Up In The End"), Chris LaCorte (Sam Hunt's "23" Tucker Wetmore's "Wind Up Missin' You") and Jessie Jo Dillon (Dan + Shay's "10,000 Hours," Morgan Wallen's "Lies Lies Lies").
  
  Dickerson, who has a history of writing heartfelt songs, decided it was time to loosen the necktie and write something a bit more unbuttoned.
  
  "When we first started writing it," Dickerson said, "I thought, 'What's a song that makes every girl want to get up and dance when it plays?'"
  
  And the answer, as any wedding DJ or bachelorette party attendee could tell you, is "Girls Just Want to Have Fun." So they stuck it right into the chorus like a splash of lime in your drink and built the rest of the song around it.
  
  The late Philadelphia singer/songwriter Robert Hazard, who wrote "Girls Just Want to Have Fun," is also credited.
• The production, done by Dickerson alongside Josh Kerr and Chris LaCorte, is a fizzy mix of modern country and upbeat pop.
• "Happen To Me" was released as a single on February 21, 2025. Dickerson's earlier singles like "Yours" and "Every Little Thing" focus on heartfelt, romantic storytelling inspired by his real-life love story with his wife. "Happen to Me" shifts gears to deliver a playful, upbeat anthem that shows another side of the balladeer.
