Songfacts®:

  • Sean Paul turns up the heat in "Temperature," his club-ready dancehall hit where he promises to keep the ladies warm when it's cold outside. Paul had been bringing Jamaican dancehall hits to a global audience - particularly in America - since 2003, when he had a #1 US hit with "Get Busy" and another that year as a featured artist on Beyoncé's "Baby Boy." "Temperature" was released in 2005 and also went to #1.
  • The song was produced by Rohan "Snowcone" Fuller, who based on the track on an instrumental he came up with a year earlier that he called "Applause Riddim." He and Sean Paul are credited as writers on the song along with Adrian Marshall, who was also part of the Jamaican dancehall scene.
  • "Temperature" is one of Sean Paul's most popular songs. Around this time he was red hot not just as a solo artist but also for features, dropping in on tracks like "Breathe" with Blu Cantrell and "Snap Yo Fingers" with Lil Jon.
  • The song was released at the end of 2005 and went to #1 in the US on April Fool's Day 2006.
  • The music video has a "hot and cold" theme, with Sean Paul offering comfort to the ladies in all four seasons. It was directed by Little X (aka Director X), whose other work includes "Started From The Bottom" by Drake and "Pon De Replay" by Rihanna.
