• The track draws on frontman Brent Smith's childhood in Knoxville, Tennessee. Born in 1978, Smith grew up in the 1980s listening to local radio station WOKI 98.7-FM while raised in a strictly religious home where rock music was considered "the work of the Devil."   He said watching his own son grow into adulthood inspired him to reflect on how much childhood had changed between generations, adding that the heart of the track is about "not losing your inner kid."
• Smith has long treated songwriting as a personal outlet, telling The Young Folks in 2021 that he'd been writing songs since age 10 because it was "cheaper than therapy."
  
  "Young Again" fits right into that lineage alongside other reflective Shinedown tracks like "Searchlight," which was shaped by conversations about the future with Smith's 18-year-old son.
• Smith co-wrote "Young Again" with Shinedown bassist Eric Bass, renewing the writing partnership behind some the band's more intimate tracks like "Three Six Five" on their 2026 album Ei8ht.
• Bass produced and mixed the track at his Big Animal Studio in Charleston, South Carolina. Ei8ht was his third full Shinedown record as producer following Attention Attention and Planet Zero.
• The music video was directed by Andrew Donoho, known for his frequent visual work with Twenty One Pilots. Donoho, who also directed Shinedown's "Searchlight" clip, highlights the song's themes of 1980s freedom with scenes of kids playing under streetlights and looking back at formative memories.
