Songfacts®:

  • Repentless is the first Slayer album to feature guitarist Gary Holt. The Exodus axeman replaced founding member Jeff Hanneman, who passed away on May 2, 2013 from liver failure. The band's other guitarist, Kerry King, told Artist Direct how he worked with Holt during the recording of the record: "When I did leads, I probably did half of them. Gary came in and did his," he said. "Then, I probably did the other half of mine. He got to play off of mine on some songs. I got to play off of his on other songs."

"He did 'You Against You' before I did mine," King added. "I think that one really captured me and Gary playing off each other. He did the first lead and second lead. I did the third and the fourth. The second and third sound like they were written for each other. They play really well off each other."
  • The song's music video was directed by BJ McDonnell, who previously worked with Slayer on the "Repentless" clip.

Drummer Paul Bostaph told Chicago's In The Loop: "We filmed that in southern California in the high desert, and it was close to an air force base. There's this guy, and he's a collector of like, airplane wrecks, decommissioned planes, that kind of thing, so we went out there and filmed it on this guy's property. It was a huge yard, and it was just amazing. He had a C-130 without the wings, and, you know, how often do you get to sit in the cockpit of one of those things?

When I was done with my part of the video, I just walked around all day, sitting in cockpits, checking out these planes. It was awesome. The video is killer, definitely the most fun I've ever had making one."
  • The video is a prequel to the "Repentless" clip. It explains the heinous crimes that Wyatt (played by Jason Trost) committed, which sent him to prison. "It's really cool being part of a video that's not just some crappy music video from the '80s or '90s," Kerry King told Rolling Stone. "It's from a real Hollywood director (BJ McDonnell) who has a lot of friends in the biz who stepped up and wanted to be in a Slayer video. That's what makes it cool to me."

BJ McDonnell directed the 2013 horror film Hatchet III and has worked as a motion picture cameraman.
