Songfacts®:

  • Los Angeles DJ and producer SNBRN (real name Kevin Andrew Chapman) is known for his mix of deep house, indie dance, and nu disco, which he's dubbed "Sunset House." This signature style shines through on "Gangsta Walk," which features the vocals of Nate Dogg, a singer who supplied the hooks for many West Coast rap tracks, most notably with Warren G. on "Regulate." Nate died of heart failure in 2011 at 41. "Gangsta Walk" uses unreleased vocals recorded before he died.
  • SNBRN lays down a driving beat, creating the canvas for Nate Dogg's signature smooth vocals (courtesy of licensing from his estate). The lyrics are a classic West Coast G-Funk party anthem, with Nate Dogg inviting a lady to join him for some late-night fun.
  • In 2024, UK producer Flex took inspiration from "Gangsta Walk" and crafted his own version, titled "6 In The Morning." While "Gangsta Walk" references the start of the party, Flex omits the original's chorus and highlights the after-hours energy that carries on into the sunrise.
