Songfacts®:

  • "Take Me Home" was originally recorded by Cher and released as a single in 1979. It became the American singer's first Top 10 single in her home country in five years, peaking at #8.
  • In 2001 Sophie Ellis-Bextor released a slightly re-written version as the lead single from her Read My Lips album. It was an instant hit, going straight to #2 in the UK Singles Chart. Cher, however, complained about the raunchy new lyrics.
  • This was the first solo release for Ellis-Bextor, who had previously enjoyed some success as the voice of TheAudience and Spiller. She is also the daughter of former Blue Peter presenter Janet Ellis.
  • This is the first of many Ellis-Bextor videos directed by Sophie Muller. The fashion-centric clip has the singer trying on various high-couture outfits.
