This cancer charity fund-raiser featuring a dozen-plus top female vocalists was the theme tune for the multi-network one hour Stand Up to Cancer telethon on September 5, 2008.
The artists featured on the recording are Ashanti, Natasha Bedingfield, Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Ciara, Keyshia Cole, Sheryl Crow, Miley Cyrus, Melissa Etheridge, Fergie, Leona Lewis, Rihanna, LeAnn Rimes and Carrie Underwood.
Stand Up To Cancer is a charitable program of the Entertainment Industry Foundation, which was set up to raise awareness and bring about an understanding that everyone is connected by cancer. After a meeting with the founder of the initiative, songwriter and producer Antonio "L.A" Reid came up with the idea of this collaborative song. He co-produced the track with Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds and the latter also wrote the song together with Ronnie Walton.
Chelsea from Pa, AzThis song means so much to me!!! My mom had breast cancer in 06 and has been a survivor ever since, everytime i hear this song, i tear up because i feel so blessed my mom is alive and well , i don't know what i would do if she weren't alive, she is my hero :)
"Here Comes Your Man" is the closest the Pixies came to a hit in America. It was rumored to be about a drug dealer, but Black Francis says it's just a story about some hobos who travel by train and die in an earthquake.
