Frontman Corey Taylor explained this song to Kerrang!: "This is the downhill run after the intro. It's a song that calls bulls--t on the various factions in the world that are trying to nail you down and define you. It says, 'Stand your ground and be who you are.'"
"It's the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)" was inspired by a dream where Michael Stipe conjured up images of people with the initials L.B.: Lester Bangs, Leonid Breshnev, Lenny Bruce and Leonard Bernstein.
