Songfacts®:

  • Stryper have always been upfront about their Christian faith in their songs and have tried to write about it in a fresh way with each of their releases. Frontman and primary lyricist Michael Sweet explained to Metal Exiles: "You can only say, 'Jesus saves' and 'Jesus is the way' so many times. And we did that in the past, I mean we laugh about it to this day. We had so many songs with "Come on, rock, rock, He is the Rock, the Rock that makes me roll" and "Rock the Hell Out of You."

So for No More Hell to Pay Sweet tried to get a little deeper with the lyrical content. "I've written a little more about experiences, like the song 'Sticks and Stones' is about the experience of me losing friends and them saying things that really hurt me and affected me in a negative way and how I just rose above it and moved on no matter what," he said. "And my relationship with them is no longer intact, but I'm doing alright, and I wish them well, you know, I've moved on."

  • Ben Humphrey from Greenfield MassachusettsStryper is very talented band made up of strong Christians. I grew up going to church, my dad is a Reverend. I turned 18 and I strayed for awhile. I bought my first Stryper album(In God We Trust) and felt something go over me as I was listening to it. I got back into church and met my wife. I got to see them live in 2013 and hope to take my son to see them live. Ive been told by some friends that because of the kind of music that its not really Christian music, most have changed their minds after hearing them. I honestly feel that if I didnt buy that album I wouldnt be back with the church, married with a wonderful son.
