Songfacts®:

  • South Londoner Jason McDermott is a Dancehall artist who records under the name of Stylo G. He grew up in Jamaica immersed in music thanks to his late father, the reggae star Poison Chang. McDermott came to the UK when he was 14 and started releasing records on the underground. This is his debut single, which came from his first studio session after signing with the 3Beat label.
  • The song's beat was supplied by Dutch producer Diztortion, who hooked up with Stylo through his label. The London Dancehall artist told The Independent: "We kind of got on straight away. He's definitely a cool guy. It was meant to be a listening session but we just ended up connecting straight away and started making the beat. He understood where I was coming from with my music and where I wanted to take it - in less than two hours we had 'Soundbwoy,' a mixture of reggae with British culture."
