Pain For Pleasure

Album: All Killer No Filler (2001)

Songfacts®:

  • "Pain For Pleasure" is Sum 41's spoof on metal bands, complete with faux-Satanic lyrics like:

    A killing spree through eternity
The Devil stabs you in the back

The band loves heavy metal, but can see the humor in it. In their hit "Fat Lip," they shout-out some of their favorite metal bands:

Heavy Metal and mullets it's how we were raised
Maiden and Priest were the gods that we praised
  • This was written and sung by the band's drummer, Steve Jocz (a.k.a Stevo 32), who claimed that he wrote it in 5 minutes while on the toilet.
  • Pain For Pleasure became Sum 41's alter ego. In the music video, which was shot along with the "Fat Lip" video and tacked on to the end, they wear leather and do the choreographed head bobs so common at metal shows. They came up with a whole backstory for the group, explaining that Jocz is "Pain" and guitarist Dave Baksh is "Pleasure," that they hated Sum 41. They did a "behind the music" type video for the group on their DVD Cross the T's and Gouge the I's, which came with their 2002 Does This Look Infected? CD, where we learn they're Scottish. >>

  • Steven from Middleboro, Maactually this song was written to be a spoof on judas priest(one of the greatest bands ever!)because if you didnt know, sum 41 loves judas priest! thats why in the video they are dressed like priest, ecpessually stevo since he sang this song, and he looked alot like rob halford back in the 70's around the time hell bent for leather came out
