Songfacts®:

  • Superstar Pride (real name: Cadarrius Pride) released "Painting Pictures" independently on October 22, 2022. The track from his debut EP 5Lbs of Pressure became a hit after TikTok users began using it in their clips on the platform.
  • Throughout the song, Superstar Pride paints pictures of his life in the hood.

2 AM, the night still young
You live by the gun, you gon' die by the gun
    Ain't no handouts for nobody

Despite growing up in the hood, Pride does not seem trigger-happy. He believes in the principle of reaping what you sow, and that involvement in gun violence will have negative consequences.

    And Mama, don't worry
    You raised a gangster, I'm a survivor

Superstar Pride has been exposed to violence throughout his life because of his upbringing, and as a result, he remains vigilant about protecting his own life.

Growing up, I ain't have no daddy, my mama played both roles
His mom acted as both his mother and father since his dad was absent.
Shout out to my pops for all the free game
Everything you ever told me, it stuck in my brain

That's not to say his father hasn't impacted Pride's life. He feels blessed to have a dad who imparted to him so many valuable life lessons.

Uncle killed me when I was young, Mama blessed the boy with the cocaine

He references his uncle's actions, which he describes figuratively as "killing" him at a young age, without elaborating further. Pride's mother, who was or is involved in the drug trade, introduced him to it.

I was taught to trust none
    Face your problems, never run
    Lil' bitch holler she pregnant
You a lil' nat-nat, that ain't my son

She's claiming Pride is the father of her son, which he denies. A nat nat is a derogatory term that is used to refer to a woman who is seen as promiscuous or sexually available, similar to hoe or thot.
  • Mississippi producer Globalknockz created the beat.
