Songfacts®:

  • "The Cool Out" is simply an instrumental remix of the A-side of this single, "The Call Up" in the dub-reggae tradition of releasing instrumental mixes of songs.
  • The production on this song is credited to Pepe Unidos, a fictional alias for the production trio of singer Joe Strummer, bassist Paul Simonon and manager Bernie Rhodes.
  • Much like "Cool Confusion," this was another US-only B-side which was unavailable in the UK for a long time and only became available when it was included on the rarities compilation Super Black Market Clash.
